Occupational Wellness Pointers

The American Counselling Association provided some salient broad-based pointers on occupational wellness:

  • Know the signs of stress, burnout and fatigue eg depression, anxiety
  • Optimise work/life balance – devote scheduled time to self-care activities
  • Find a sense of purpose and meaning in your life, connecting with your core values
  • Build new skills and competencies – develop psychological flexibility to cope with the relentless changes in life and to be relevant to the new world
  • Develop communication skills and assertiveness skills to navigate around workplace politics and to negotiate workload equity
  • Optimise working conditions and the broader work environment
  • Match your personality type to the job description in order to increase job satisfaction and productivity. Use a tool like Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
